Our History

Christ Chruch Guilford Evening viewThe history of Christ Church Guilford is very rich. It starts with acknowledgment of the land on which the building sits and the Native peoples who have tended this land for centuries and continues with the story of the early European settlers who built the structure and worshiped here. While no permanent congregation has held regular services here for nearly 150 years, the building and grounds are lovingly tended – and used.

While Christ Church is closed for safety reasons, we are mounting Christ Church Guilford Past and Future: An Exhibit at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 16 Bradley Ave., Brattleboro (on Putney Road, north of Brattleboro Common). Come see historic documents, artifacts, our “wish list” for building improvements, a list of grants we have received, and photos. We will have copies of Wolf Kahn prints, Robert R. Anderson’s 2016 booklet, Christ Church Guilford, greeting card sets, Guilford slate from the roof, and brochures — available for modest donations to help with essential repairs. Here are the hours:

  • Sunday, July 6, Noon-4:00 pm
  • Monday – Saturday, July 7-12, 1:00-5:00 pm
  • Sunday, July 13, Noon-4:00 pm

St. Michael’s is fully accessible, and there is ample parking. Hope to see you there!
